What is a description of different types of marketing?
Hi, I’m Janet Granger and I’m answering the question – what is a description of the different types of marketing?
I’ve found a website that says there are about 163 different types of marketing. That’s a lot of different types of marketing!
But what I’m sharing is – most of those fall into what I would call the Buyers Decision-Making Funnel – here’s how this works
There are always a lot of people who may not know about your product or service in the marketing world – so the very top of that funnel is what’s called Awareness – and there’s a lot that goes into that area.
That’s where influencers come in. That’s where brand and image work comes in. That’s where logo work comes in.
In the Awareness phase, you want to make people aware that this product or service exists. When people are aware of you, then maybe they want to learn more about you. That’s called the Interest part of the funnel.
That’s where people go looking for information. They may go to websites. They may look things up online. They may want to do comparisons. The Interest part means they know who you are and now they want to learn a little bit more about you.
Moving further down the funnel – we get to the Decision-Making process. This is where things like pricing and competition come in. Where now, let’s say, you’re thinking about buying a car – you might go to different showrooms. You want to talk to different sales people and you want to find out who’s going to give you the best deal and when is the best time to buy and who has a product that you really want.
That’s the decision making – and then at the very bottom of the funnel, there’s action – you purchase something.
Now there is quite a bit that goes on afterwards – now that you’re a customer, people want to keep you engaged and maybe sell you other products.
There’s something called Lifetime Customer Value, where maybe you don’t just buy once but you’re now buying on a repeated basis. But most marketing falls into one of those four categories, or in that loyalty and relationship category when it comes to after the sale.
Examples of the areas at the top of the funnel are brand marketing and affiliate marketing and word of mouth marketing and influencer marketing.
In terms of being further down the funnel, you’ve got case studies, testimonials – also called social proof, and you’ve got content marketing.
There’s lots and lots of different tactics and techniques that basically move people through this process.. That’s what’s called the customer journey.
So I also found a couple of links you might like that I’m sharing here. One of them is called the Ultimate Guide to Marketing that you might find helpful. Also – what marketing fits my personality? If you’re thinking about marketing as a career check them out.
